Sevilla, Spain

SEVILLA… WOW! Let’s just say that this Andalucian city definitely lives up to the hype. Sevilla (pronounced Savija) is a big city, with a lot to offer, but it still has the charm of quaint neighborhoods and endless cobblestone streets lined with colorful buildings and small tabernas. Since I live in a small city like Jaén, I love to get away for the weekend to a bigger city and indulge in the offerings of a more progressive, highly populated city… like vegan food, iced coffees, and free wifi in most establishments.. you know the small things in life that a California girl cannot live without.

I went to Sevilla at the end of October and the weather was simply delightful. I haven’t experienced an Andalucian summer yet, but I have heard that it is quite unbearable. When I was there it was about 75-80 degrees (Fahrenheit) during the day and it cooled down to the low 60s at night – perfection! I went with my travel buddy Nadia and we stayed in a very cute (and small) airbnb. It was exactly what we needed for our 3 days in Sevilla. Equipped with a kitchen and rooftop patio, we took advantage of the amazing weather and made a big charcuterie board and enjoyed it during sunset with a bottle (or two) of wine before going out. I can’t exactly speak for the night life as we were exhausted from the full day of walking and touring, so we only went out for a few drinks at some bars along the river (we were told the river had the best view of the city at night). It was a very nice sight with the whole city lit up and the lights reflecting on the water – my night photography is not very good so the photos did not do it justice and I am not going to post any photos of this. Some of the major tourist destinations we hit were: the Real Alcazar, Plaza de España, Metropol Parasol, Guadalquivir River and Cathedral de Sevilla. I definitely recommend checking out a Flamenco show, and even if you don’t book anything you can see flamenco dancers and singers at Plaza de España most days!

We could have spent an entire day in the The Real Alcazar- it is massive and is surrounded by gardens and courtyards that seem to never end. If you plan to visit the Alcazar, definitely try to book tickets ahead of time. We didn’t and we waited in line for 1.5 hours – even though it was worth it, it’s not ideal and waiting in line can be avoided.

I loved the energy of this city and I am planning to go back in the spring! I can’t wait!

A typical building and restaurant in a plaza

Casa Toni, a super cute restaurant we found tucked away on a side street. We had an amazing meal of Paella here.

Black rice paella and chicken paella. YUM!!!!!! I love paella and could eat it every day. Craving some right about now.

Me, taking it all in!

Incredible architecture everywhere!

Beautiful Flamenco dancer!

Lots of photo opps at this place!!

Every inch of this place is stunning.

The above three photos are from a random hotel rooftop bar we found but I can't remember the name! There are a bunch of rooftop spots in Sevilla where you can have a drink and a tapa and enjoy the views of the city!

The Real Alcazar of Sevilla "is aroyal palace inSeville, Spain, built for the Christian king Peter of Castile." This place is massive! Every room, wall, door, window, floor etc. has so much detail it is absolutely beautiful.

Nadia and I in front of one of the main courtyards. The pool looked a little bit too inviting..

Some detail in one of the million rooms.

Obsessed with this floor!

I match the wall!

Outside in the endless gardens

Outside of The Real Alcazar there is a beautiful courtyard. I personally do not agree with these horse carriages, but they are a big tourist attraction and it looks like something out of the past, so I snapped a pic. I hope the horses are treated well!

Another shot from outside The Real Alcazar.

I can't wait to take in your charm again soon, Sevilla!
